International Student Training Program


24th July 2009, Mohali: At SED Head office, Mohali, the first International student training program concluded on 24 july 2009. This two month program commenced on 25th May 2009 with coming in of Mr. Henrard Philippe, a management student in ‘Programme SUP2’ of ISEG NANTES, France. The training was aimed at understanding business operations and methodologies of the company. The professional & technical aspects of the work entrusted allowed the trainee to practice and apply his learnings in international business at his school.

Celebration of Accomplishments


23rd July 2009, Mohali: To commemorate the successful endeavours by the staff members special lunches are organized for them wherein all rejoice in the accomplishments made for the organization and weave path for many more in future. Lunches were organized for Carom Winners on 2nd July 2009 and Team ERP 23rd July 2009 for successful implementation of upgraded version of ERP.

HIV Awareness Campaign


11th July 2009, Baddi, Himachal Pradesh: SED took an opportunity to raise HIV Awareness & relentless commitment to create a more just and prosperous world for all. The campaign was held in the Production Units II & III, Baddi in two slots on dated 27th June 2009 and 11th July 2009 respectively. It was facilitated by TCE (Total Control of the Epidemic – HIV/ AIDS) – 'Humana People to People India'. The awareness was done through a ‘Street Play’ & the target audience was Staff & Workers. HIV testing was done of 200 participants & all reports came out to be negative.

Skill Enhancement Workshop for SED Drivers


4th July 2009, Mohali: A unique Skill Enhancement Workshop was planned at SED Head office, Mohali, specially for the SED drivers which benefited them in various aspects of their personal as well as professional life. This whole program was divided into 4 sessions of 2 hours each. The participants learnt various behavioral & technical abilities like courtesy, attitude, customer care, think & do of driving and defensive driving traits. Each of them were handed over their Participation certificates as well.

4th July 09, New Delhi: Sugar Asia, an international exclusive exhibition and conference on sugar & downstream products was held from 2-4 July 2009 at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. SED was the key sponsor of the event showcasing the latest technology, equipment, inputs & services available in India and abroad for Sugar Manufacturers.

Ayurvedic Health Camp by Bloom


17th June 09, Mohali: SED in collaboration with Bloom organized a free health check-up by experienced Ayurvedic doctors at its Mohali office. These doctors came up with amazing health boosters made from authentic Ayurvedic herbs for anti-aging, anti-stress, brain booster, healthy heart and detoxification for increasing vigour & vitality. Also these health boosters could help in many ways like dissolve gallstones, reduce cholesterol, purify blood and are good for anaemic conditions, tiredness & 'Good Mood'. Samples of health boosters were available at the extension counter.

Carrom Competition


19th June 2009, Mohali: SED organized “Carrom Competition” tailored specifically to evidence a competitive culture. It started in the first week of May and went through series of rounds. Finally Mr. Nitin Sharma won the finals on 19th June 2009. The power of these types of exercises rest not in games themselves but also depicting real scenarios which come alive when concrete business problems get solved. Games like Carrom Competition come with lots of surprises. Such games are the initiatives which mirrors how business processes flow. Each participant is an integral part of business system which must perform its role & link with other participants to deliver quality product to the customer.

Junior Sedlites Summer Stripe


29th May 2009, Mohali: SED has added another feather in its cap by organizing first time in its history a Children’s Summer Camp from 25 – 29 May 2009 in its office premises. The camp was very aptly named as ‘The Jr. SEDlites Summer Stripe/09’ and had the participation of 16 kids of SED staffers. During this camp various activities were held like Poster Making, Creative Writing, Fun filled Games, Quiz Competition, Dance Competition, Movies Show, Tattoo Making, Story Telling, and Grooming Tips. Children were also taken for a trip to Mother Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity Home in Sector-23, Chandigarh on last day of the camp i.e.29 May 2009 and acquainted to Mother Teresa vision & values. The inmates of the Charitable Home were very happy to see the small children talking & mingling with them & handing over goodies to them.

25th May 2009, Mohali: Tree Plantation was celebrated with a motto of 'Clean & Green SED' by active involvement of SEDlites. It started on 3rd May and continued during the month on 7th, 11th, 14th, 17th, 19th & 25th.

Meditation Awareness Program

23rd May 2009, Mohali: A two-day (22nd & 23rd May) Meditation Workshop was organized for awareness of mind & body among employees at Mohali office of SED. It was facilitated by Ms. Vibha Jain from P.U. in which emphasis was laid on how to be in a deeper state of relaxation & awareness.

Road Safety Awareness Program

20th May 2009, Mohali: An awareness program on Road Safety facilitated by Chandigarh Road Education Cell was organized at Mohali office of SED. SEDlites were made aware of importance of road safety rules & regulations via lecture method. Further Road Safety Rules - Pamphlets, CDs & Signs were distributed among the participants during the program.

Sugar Industry Technologists (SIT) Conference


14th May 2009, New Orleans, USA: SIT, founded in the US in 1941 is an international association with a membership of about fifty corporate sugar refining companies, and about fifty corporate allied companies with over five hundred individual members from around the world. It organized an annual conference (11th May 2009 – 13th May 2009), in New Orleans, USA where members from various countries presented technical papers based on research or development in cane sugar processing technology, quality control, environmental issues and other topics of interest to the cane sugar refining industry. SED was a prominent participant at the SIT conference. To promote the SCP™ (Spray Continuous Pan) SED representative Mr. Ashish Nanda gave poster presentation at the conference. He got a very good and impressive feedback on SCP™ from the delegates who liked the concept and looked forward to have a SCP for crystallization.

Health Camp

12th May 2009, Baddi: With a thought of sound mind in a sound body among SED members, one day Health Camp was organized at Baddi Plant in active collaboration with Ivy Hospital, Mohali. Free checkups for the SED staffers were conducted for B.P., Weight, General Health Checkup, Blood Sugar & ECG. Out of 87 SED members who took this benefit, one worker was identified with ill health who was further treated at Ivy Hospital.

Health Education Talk

5th & 7th May 2009, Mohali / Baddi: A 2 hours enlightening discussion on General Health Tips along with – Life Style Diseases & Heart Matters, Posture Related Problems, Basic Life Support was organized at Mohali and Baddi units of SED. It was conducted by classified Specialist Doctors of Ivy Hospital, Mohali.
