Spent Wash
Spent wash is one of the most difficult and highly polluted effluents generated mainly from distilleries during the production of alcohol, especially from molasses-based fermentation. It has a dark brown colour, high COD and BOD, and is loaded with organic matter, making it extremely harmful if left untreated. Traditional methods like bio-digestion, composting, or lagoon storage need huge land, long retention times, and still may not meet pollution norms. At SED, we offer a more compact, efficient, and sustainable solution to handle spent wash using our MVR-based Low Temperature Evaporation (LTE®) system. Our technology helps recover clean water from this tough effluent — without using steam, chemicals, or biological treatment.

Challenges in Spent Wash
Very high COD and BOD
Due to fermentation residues and organic compounds.
Thick and dark colour
Making it hard to treat or reuse.
Foul smell and heat
That make storage and handling difficult.
Requires large space
For traditional methods like lagoons or composting.
Strict government norms
That demand Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD).
Our MVR-Based Solution
No need for bio-treatment or huge composting land.
High COD reduction and water recovery.
Minimal power consumption with MVR.

Small footprint — fits even in space-limited areas.
Custom-engineered for your effluent load.
Remote monitoring, quick maintenance, fully automatic system.
