The oil and gas industry produces a wide range of wastewater from drilling, refining, washing, and utility processes. This effluent is often loaded with oil, grease, hydrocarbons, heavy metals, and high TDS. Some of the wastewater also comes from produced water, which is brought up during oil extraction and contains salts, chemicals, and organic matter. Due to its complex and harsh nature, treating this effluent and recovering water from it becomes a big challenge. Traditional biological or chemical treatment methods often fall short, especially when trying to achieve Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD).
